Bonita grew up in Guernsey - a small, quiet Island in the English Channel.
Bonita established a Tipi hire company 9 years ago, after noticing a gap in the local outdoor event industry and has since been known as "the tipi lady". Her love of the outdoors & nature, coupled with her creativity resulted in a successful business.
Whilst now rebranded, it's an ever growing & evolving company. Bonita remains hands on from start to finish making sure every detail is thought of.
Over those 9 years, she has been involved in over 150 weddings and 100 events.
Bonita specialises in outdoor events and loves creating bespoke event designs, inspired by the natural world.
I spend my free time enjoying walks with my husband & dog, bird watching, gardening and traveling. I love art & photography, wildlife & nature, travel & exploring, and most sports i enjoy playing - i currently play basketball and netball.
Over the years, I've learnt that events are never perfect, they're running at real time with real people, but it's how we deal with the imperfections that sets us apart.
It takes an amazing team to deliver an event and I'm very fortunate to have a talented team that works tirelessly to achieve beautiful events.
I take on feedback and analyse every single event so we can continue to improve.
My vision is ambitious so naturally my business adapts and evolves continually. I have big plans for our future!
Imogen joined us in 2021 after deciding to return to Guernsey to finish her university degree remotely - Covid cause was definitely our gain! Imogen continued her studies alongside a busy event season with us and still managed to achieve a First Class Honours in Event Management and Distinction in Wedding Planning.
Imogen is a kind, friendly and creative soul, teamed with her qualification and experience, makes the perfect wedding planner! She works very hard for our customers and treats each wedding as if it was her own, with real dedication, thoughtfulness and care. You'll find Imi running from meeting to meeting, organising suppliers, laying tables or maybe enjoying a cheeky sweet treat!
When Imi finished School, she started in a wedding planning internship, which was only meant to be for 2 weeks but ended up turning into a 8-month journey... clearly it was meant to be!
Imogen specialises in Weddings & personalised details.
I spend the majority of my spare time being very creative whether that’s sewing, scrapbooking, knitting or cooking. My ideal evening is spent watching a TV series and trying to complete one of my many ongoing craft projects – or making the lounge into a complete mess if you ask my boyfriend!
I have always loved planning events, growing up my birthday party, but more so planning it was the highlight of my year I loved every aspect of the planning from deciding on the theme, to writing the invites and waiting for RSVPs, making party bags and decorating the room.
I studied event management in Bournemouth and alongside that I completed a diploma in wedding planning. During Covid, I returned to Guernsey, having not lived there for 7 years, and soon I realised this was where I was supposed to be. I loved what I was doing so I completed my degree from a distance and continued working with Bonita Events throughout. I achieved a first-class honours in Event Management and a Distinction in Wedding Planning.
My dissertation was surrounding experiential events and the emotion behind them, specifically looking at how brands can use stories at an event to create this emotion. I think that’s why I love weddings so much, as there’s always a story. I love the personality you can portray through a wedding and create an experience with all the fun elements that make each and every one so different. Weddings excite me and I’m honoured to help create each and every one- There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being stood watching the first dance or speeches of a couple’s wedding that you’ve been a part of, it’s definitely magical.
John is not only the warehouse manger, he's Bonita's Dad!
John has been involved in the business since it was established in 2015. Although back then he was still working full time at the Ambulance Station so he would put up tipis in the evening and weekends.
He has had a 20 year paramedic career but before that was a successful grower (when Guernsey still grew fruit/veg commercially). He retired from St Johns in 2019 & joined Bonita Events team full time where he quickly took on lead role of tent and event set ups. His experience in tent rigging is invaluable, particularly his expertise in weather and tent monitoring during poor weather conditions, which is often the case in Guernsey!
He's a great manager/team leader and very well liked by all of the PTime/seasonal staff and external supplies.
He's often called the "warehouse elf" due to his desire to keep the warehouse organised and tidy!
On site you'll find him cleaning chairs with his homemade concoction, tightening ratchet straps, repositioning poles, hammering stakes, driving the BIG vehicles... the list goes on.
John has 4 children and 6 Grandchildren so his spare time is very much family based. He enjoys gardening, fishing and watching sports in his spare time. He has a passion for weather and will often be checking the forecasts!
Jon joined our team in July 2024 as head of operations and once fully trained will lead the tent rigging in Guernsey. Jon comes from a varied background including operations and customer service so we have no doubt he will be central our Bonita Events future.
Jon is helpful and approachable withs a positive, can-do attitude!
Jon will now be leading our HIRE business meaning you will now be able to hire Bonita events equipment!
We have a huge team of part time & seasonal staff . They vary in age and experience but all our hardworking and dedicated to creating beautiful events! They all have key skills in different areas that combined create a practical and creative team.
Some of our long term crew include Lorna, Chris, Madi, Zac, and Ethan. Most of our summer staff join us at 14 and remain with us until they leave school or Uni if we're lucky!
Ethan has recently set off to work with one of our SPERRY friends in New Zealand - being the opposite seasons to us means Ethan could with us April - Oct and then NZ Oct - April. These kind of opportunities are what it's all about and we ant wait to see what Ethan does next... hopefully comes back to Guernsey!
We're always looking for seasonal or casual staff to join us to if you want some event experience or just a weekend job, we'd love to hear from you!
We work with talented, like-minded professionals, to deliver the event that you desire. These professionals have enabled us to deliver thoroughly enjoyable, amazing events, which clients have loved. I believe this network reflects some of the best local talent that Guernsey has to offer, with these individuals being recognised as having the skills to make an event special.
Guernsey is a hub for creative arts, which this network of craftsmen allows me to translate onto the wonderful natural environment of the island & deliver something truly memorable.
We also have an incredible contact list further afield, meaning we can source all levels of entertainment & talented artists to achieve your goal.
